Cory is blazing new paths with his academic career, and is a second generation Warnell School student, as his father graduated in 1971.

Thursday Seminar features Global Climate Change Debate
- The Warnell School’s next “Thursday Seminar” will feature a debate between Drs. Bruce Borders and Bob Teskey concerning: “Is global warming occurring, and if so, is it caused by humans?” The debate will be moderated by Associate Dean David Newman on Thursday, April 26, at 4:00pm in 1-304. This will be Warnell’s Thursday seminar for next week.

Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources recognized and rewarded its many outstanding students, student-teachers, and professors at its 76th Annual Spring Awards Banquet held Thursday, April 19th at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education in Athens, GA.

Congratulations to Warnell School spring and summer 2007 graduates
- The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at The University of Georgia will hold a formal graduation ceremony for all undergraduate and graduate students completing their programs in the spring and summer 2007 semesters on Saturday, May 12th. Graduation Ceremony will begin at 12:00 noon in the 2-100 auditorium (or a little later if the UGA ceremony runs over) and will be followed by a catered reception in the building four reception area.

Warnell School accepting donations for Georgia wildfire fighters
- Faculty, staff and students of UGA’s Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources are collecting donated supplies until 5:00 pm on Thursday, May 31 that are urgently needed by the roughly 1,300 Georgia Forestry Commission and USDA Forest Service firefighters and foresters battling the wildfires in southern Georgia and northern Florida.

Warnell School, UGA Community shows its generosity
- The faculty, staff, students and administration of the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources would like to thank all members of the Warnell School, and UGA community, who donated badly needed food, hygiene and medicinal items for the roughly 1,300 firefighters battling Georgia’s largest ever recorded wildfires.

Georgia Carbon Registry Certification Conference hosted by Warnell School & GFC
- The Warnell School and Georgia Forestry Commission held a Carbon Sequestration Certification conference June 5-6 at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education in Athens, Ga. The state of Georgia will soon begin certifying potential buyers, and sellers, of carbon trading certificates in the first carbon market developed in the Southeast. GFC carbon market professional Josh Love, and Warnell School faculty Daniel Markewitz and Bruce Borders provided insight on how this new market might operate, and who might be interested in participating.

Georgia Forest Fire Recovery Program
- Southeast Georgia forest landowners affected by the state’s largest recorded wildfires have suffered terribly, both economically and psychologically, as a result of watching years of investment in time and resources destroyed, sometimes in a single day. Whether the fire burned thousands of acres of industrial timberland, or engulfed a family-owned stand of less than one hundred acres, the fire has set affected timberland owners back and left many with a sense of helplessness as to what the future holds for them.

Michael Clutter named Dean of the Warnell School
- Michael L. Clutter, who has been associated with the University of Georgia Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources almost his entire life as the son of a faculty member and later as a student, researcher and professor, will become dean of the school on Aug. 15.

- Effingham (County) Girls In Science will be holding its 3rd Annual Open House on Saturday, August 18, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the UGA Warnell Forest Education Center in Guyton, GA. The event is free and open to all girls attending middle or high school in Effingham, or surrounding counties.

Professor Coder Receives World Author’s Award
- University of Georgia professor, Dr. Kim D. Coder was recently awarded the R.W. Harris Author’s Citation Award by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), a non-profit professional tree care association. Dr. Coder, of the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources at the university, won this competitive international award for his “sustained excellence in the publication of outstanding educational materials for professionals in the field of community forestry and tree health.”

Warnell gearing up for 2007 Homecoming
- The Warnell School has an exciting schedule of events planned for UGA's 2007 Homecoming celebrations, including the traditional golf tournament and pre-game tailgate. Festivities begin Friday, Nov. 2, and include the dedication of "Archie's Chapel" in memory of revered former faculty member, Dr. Archie Patterson.

- The Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources is proud to host the 2008 Southeastern Partners in Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (SEPARC) Annual Meeting. UGA Forestry Club Places Second at Southern Forestry Conclave
- While competing in the Southern Forestry Conclave in Gainesville, Florida this past weekend (March 7-9, 2008), the UGA Forestry Club represented the University of Georgia and the Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources very well. With the help of the Whitehall Forest staff, several faculty and staff, and several alumni, over the past several months the club dedicated themselves to training for conclave events.

UGA Team Wins Southeastern Wildlife Conclave
- The UGA Student Chapter of the Wildlife Society achieved ultimate success at this year’s annual Southeastern Wildlife Conclave held over Spring Break, winning both the coveted Quiz Bowl competition and the overall competition. The Conclave was hosted by the University of Tennessee at Martin and held at Paris Landing State Park in northwestern Tennessee.

UGA Creative Research Awards Banquet
- One former and one current Warnell graduate student were recently presented with University of Georgia Creative Research Awards. Gino D’Angelo, a doctoral graduate in wildlife ecology, and Andrew K. Davis, a doctoral candidate in wildlife ecology, were honored on March 25, 2008 at a ceremony held at the Classic Center.

- Professor of Forestry Dale Greene and graduate students Amanda Hamsley and Michael Westbrook were awarded top honors for technical writing by the Forest Resources Association, Inc.
